Offering Daycare

A large percentage of a company’s workforce population fall into the married (or single parent) with children category. Many times productivity is lessened because of the so many pressures these people face at home and at work, on a daily basis. Those especially with young children have so many worries about child care at home. Others just quit altogether when it becomes a choice between work and children.

A company who seeks the welfare of its employees will be rewarded with increased productivity. Those who have set up daycare in their business or company establishments find renewed motivation and higher performance levels from people who can bring their children with them to work.

Parents of children become more productive at work because they have peace of mind while going about their jobs. Knowing that their children are just in the same building as they are gives much comfort to them. Others are more inspired and driven to finish their work obligations during the day so that they can break from work early to spend time with their kids.

With placing daycare facilities in your company, you also increase chances of your employees staying with you for a long, long time. Employees who feel the company’s genuine concern for them become loyal and committed to staying on the job since they feel they are valued and taken cared of.

Companies which provide daycare also financially benefit in spite of the costs of day care set up they have expended. The IRS and even the local government give tax breaks to companies who do this. Also, it will no be surprising if they receive financial contributions from their own employees or business clients to be used for projects like this.

If you have not yet provided daycare for your employees, you might want to think about providing one for them now.

Firstly, decide how far your company will go with this. You may open up your own daycare inside your business premises. You may also open or manage a daycare in another location. Another option would be, instead of taking primary responsibility for child day care, you may also opt to grant daycare allowances for employees.

You decide how far based on your company size and on the level of your commitment. Forbes magazine gives insight on office daycare rates (usually half of what private day care center charges parents). The Work & Family Connection lists FAQ’s for employers thinking of starting their own daycare.

You can have the management of your office daycare contracted outside. This allows the daycare to be conceptualized and handled by those with expertise. Instead of hiring new people for this program you can just go to those who professionally develop, staff, and manage daycare programs. Children’s Choice, Knowledge Learning Corp., Bright Horizons, and La Petite Academy are one of them.

Some employers provide short term or emergency back-up care to employees on emergencies. This enables the employees to continue working even during unforeseen family and home problems. Companies may provide substitute nannies when your kid’s nanny falls ill. They may also offer additional care when you are needed for long overtimes, during deadlines and etc. You may contact Caregivers On Call, LifeCAre, and WorkOptions for services like this.
